Modulating effects of steviol and steviol glycosides on adipogenesis, lipogenesis, glucose uptake and insulin resistance in 3T3-L1 adipocyte model

Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni is famous for sweetness due to the content of steviol glycosides (SG). This study aimed determine effect SG (stevioside, rebaudioside A) and on adipogenesis lipogenesis in 3T3-L1 model. Test compounds were also analysed their ability affect glucose uptake hypertrophied insulin-resistant adipocytes. The most active compound modulating adipogenesis, insulin resistance was steviol, metabolism product. Steviol (10 μM, 100 μM) significantly down-regulated expression adipogenic transcription factors (PPARγ, C/EBPα, SREBP1) lipogenic genes (FAS, aP2, LPL), which caused decreased lipid accumulation triglyceride Treatment adipocytes with (1 stevioside 10 increased GLUT-4 transcript level improved uptake. lowered resistin gene expression, may mitigate promotes as potential health-promoting ingredients low-calorie functional foods.
